Doug Wheeler, RM 669, c. 1969

RM 669 is made up of curved white walls, surrounded by a floor and ceiling that seem to recede the closer you walk towards the neon square. Wheeler used several illusionary effects, such as removing any hard edges from the walls and diluting the light so the square casts no shadow. This makes the viewer’s experience in the room the center of attention, rather than the visible materials and techniques.
RM 669 is installed at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Los Angeles, CA.
